Karmic Success

It is possible to achieve a Critical Failure and a Critical Success at the same time. If this happens, the action is first completed as a Critical Success, then the effects of the Critical Failure are applied. This often results in very dramatic successes.

Example: Victor, fighting a Kurr'd-ah, rolls his 4 Skill Dice and come up with a 10, 1, 1, and 1. First, he checks for a Critical Success by rolling a die. It results in a 2, so he adds his Scale of 4 to the result, ending up with a 10(roll) + 4(Skill) + 4(Scale) +7(Aptitude) = 25. This is enough to inflict a grievous wound upon the Kurr'd-ah. However, he then rolls to check for Critical Failure, and the die roll is a ``1.'' The Game Master rules that the sword thrust has impaled in the Kurr'd-ah's torso, and its struggles have ripped the weapon away.
