Attributes in Grey Lotus are divided up into an Aptitude and a Scale, normally represented by a slash notation, with Aptitude first, like this: 7/4. The Aptitude is the number most often used, and represents the character's actual ability. Scale, however, represents raw potential of the Attribute. A character with a high Scale but a relatively low Aptitude may have a lot of potential, but is unable to use it effectively. An example would be a very strong person who does not know how to apply basic leverage to really use his muscles. Obviously, there is a point where sheer Scale is overwhelming, and for this reason the Aptitude is limited by the character's Scale.
